Here you will find all the information you can about MHSHS clubs. We will tell you the goal/purpose of each club, who is running it, where it is, and more! Clubs are a great way to be active in the school community and they are a large part of our school. Don't see a club here that you are interested in? With enough people and a teacher supervisor; you could start your own! We hope to see you at future club meetings!
Arts & Craft

This club is a place for people to get together to relax and enjoy working with their hands on different creative projects! Some ideas we have for this new year are jewelry making, creating and sending cards to the elderly, origami, painting, drawing, watercolor, collage, etc. As the teacher host of this club, my goal is to take the ideas that students have for a project and make them into a reality, so you all have a safe space to express yourself creatively and try activities that interest you. No one needs anyone prior knowledge or background in art, or really any 'skill' in art either! I personally think it is about having fun and tapping into your creativity to have an outlet for self-expression :)

Astrology Club

We are rebuilding ourselves, hoping to bring a new understanding as to why so many people believe in astrology while exploring the different branches under this big umbrella term. From card reading to birth chart analysis, we hope to make your journey in astrology safe, welcoming, and all the more informative.

Book Club

The book club will be a discussion-based club where students choose a book that has a movie and discuss it throughout the duration of the reading. These books will be of various genres and will display many different kinds of themes. Once we complete the book, we watch the movie together and follow it up with a discussion of similarities, differences, and what we would change. This club will encourage students to read through an analytical lens and will help with discussion skills which can be used throughout the school year along with other social occasions. This will be a fun way for students to engage with each other and find common interests through reading.

Black Student Union

The BSU is a black-focused space that is welcoming to people of all races and nationalities. Here, we have real talks about the black agenda, get down to the truths of the African-American experience, and most importantly, create plans and events school-wide and exclusively club-wide. Creative Writing Club

Creative Writing Club provides and searches for opportunities for students to share their creative writing works. Students are asked to write and provide a writing piece per week, every week few writing pieces are selected to be either featured in WSA or displaced in the halls or featured in student submission for Newspaper Club.

Dungeons and Dragons
Hosted by: Mr. Kozak
An organized yet flexible role-playing game. The participants are typically sitting around a tabletop inside during indoor games. Usually, one player assumes the position of the Dungeon Master (DM) while the others each have authority over a single character that represents a person in a fictional world.

Debate Club

Debate Club is all about being able to create a good argument and winning with it. Although we do mainly focus on more serious topics as those have the most research on them, if you like to passionately defend your favorite show or other interests, the skills you learn here are useful in those situations as well.

Desi Club

A club focused on the history and nuances of Desi culture, as well as general discussions. Desi is a word used to describe the people, cultures, and products of the Indian subcontinent. Similarly, this club goes through the history of India and the formation of the desi diaspora. We also discuss shared cultural experiences and differences within our cultural backgrounds.

Foosball World Cup

Table football is a tabletop game that is loosely modeled on association football. It is also known as foosball, table soccer, Taca Taca in Chile, and Metegol in Argentina. The object of the game is to move the ball to the goal of the opposition by manipulating rods that have figures connected to them.
Together we are competing to find out which country is the true champion of Foosball!!

Gender and Sexuality Alliance

The Gender and Sexuality Alliance is a club dedicated to creating a safe space for MHSHS's LGBTQ+ students to speak their minds and have fun! In GSA, we learn about past, present, and future events relating to the LGBTQ+ community. We play games, encourage discussions, and generally have a really fun time! In the future, we plan to host events, decorate MHSHS with pride decorations, and go on a few trips. Though GSA is dedicated to LGBTQ+ students, you don't have to identify as LGBTQ+ to join. We hope to see you at our next meeting!

The investor club collaborates in learning what stocks are, and what their value means. We dive into reason, not impulse, and analyze what makes stocks move. Our long-term goal is to leave all our members equipped to make informed investment decisions based on their risk tolerance and investment goals that will build value for their entire life.

Math Club

Exploring and having discussions about new math concepts, holding homework and general math help sessions, and working on problems from real-life competitions such as AMC and Math Olympiad. In addition, we assist students in preparing for the math section of the SAT and ACT, as well as having fun with one another in the math world.

Media Club

Media Club is a place to capture the MHSHS community in its natural glory. We would like to create a club that will be continued throughout school history, as media is an important part of documenting our school. We plan to photograph/video school events and MLK sports games. We are looking for a small group of people who are dedicated to photography and not only put in the effort but the time outside of class to capture events/games outside of school. We will have weekly photo submissions for students to submit one picture that they took throughout the week. The winner will have their photo titled the "Photo of the Week" to highlight and display our student's work. This will bring members of the club together and build a community with one another that will be applied in their media.

Mural Club

Mural Club is a small community that paints requested walls of teachers’ rooms. A mural is drawn on a wall using different mediums and layers to formulate a theme to the wall owner’s liking. Murals will last several years, so each artwork requires a good amount of commitment over the course of 1-2 months from a blank wall to a masterpiece. Mural paint and materials are provided by Mr. Kozak or the requested teacher. Students usually work on the murals during study hall or in their free time. The teachers would usually accommodate any needs. All murals are painted mainly by students because Mr. Kozak is fairly hands-off after providing inspiration and materials. The mural club meets after school as a group on Tuesdays after schools. With year-long projects waiting for us, we need your help!

We will be writing about a variety of topics but we will be focused on MHSHS. Anyone can join and you don't require any prior experience! Rock the Street, Wall Street (RTSWS)

Rock the Street, Wall Street (RTSWS) is a financial and investment literacy program designed to spark the interest of a diverse population of high school girls in careers in finance. The year-long academic program is facilitated 100% by local female financial professionals and offers the following four components: financial and investment literacy workshops, a "Wall Street Experience" field trip, mentoring, and a new internship and job portal. All female-identifying and non-binary students are welcome!

Student Council (STUCO) consists of elected students that improve, accommodate, and work with the student body! With 3 grade representatives per grade, 2 co-presidents, 1 treasurer, 1 secretary, and 1 webmaster, STUCO bring events to everyone from trips to in school events. STUCO works with the School Leadership Team (SLT) as well. If you have any questions or concerns about the school, please reach out to any of the STUCO members!

The Better You Club

The Better You club aims to create a safe and supportive environment for not just a club but a community. We want it to be a space where people can express themselves without having to deal with judgment as youth nowadays encounter. We also aim to educate and bring mental health awareness to the community through methods such as social media, weekly emails/school news, and lessons. Nevertheless, we aim to create access to resources to provide a bridge between community mental health resources and MHSHS.
