Meet the Team

The MHSHS Newspaper Club, the Hunter-Gatherers, is a team of writers who collaborate to produce brilliant articles published on the mhshsnews.com website. Below are the leaders of the 2022-2023 MHSHS Newspaper. Please contact us with any requests or questions in the section below.

Mahalil Hayat

Mahalil Hayat (he/him) is a sophomore at MHSHS; he is a co-chiefs-in-editor for the Hunter-Gatherers’ Newspaper. Mahalil is a part of the MLK badminton and wrestling team. Aside from the Newspaper Club, Mahalil runs the Debate Club and is an active member of the Desi Club, Arts & Crafts Club, Better You Club, and GSA. Mahalil aims to contribute to the Hunter-Gatherers Newspaper, and through his efforts, he wants to lead the rest of the club members to make it so that the club continues to strive for success and excellence.

Kiran Srikant

Kiran Srikant (she/her) is a sophomore at MHSHS; she is a co-chiefs-in-editor for the Hunter-Gatherers’ Newspaper. Kiran enjoys photography and graphic design. Aside from the Newspaper Club, Kiran is one of the freshman representatives on the Student Council. She runs the Media Club and Film Club. Kiran aims for the Hunter-Gatherers Newspaper to become an important aspect of the school. She believes that students should want to read the newspaper and even be part of it.

Copy Editors

Copy Editors proofread and revise all articles before they are published. Articles are thoroughly checked for grammar, punctuation, and factual content. They make sure writing is seamless!

Yongna Guan

Yongna Guan (she/they) is a junior at MHSHS; she’s one of the copy editors who assist the Hunter-Gatherers’ Newspaper by editing articles. Yongna enjoys reading and crocheting. Aside from those, Yongna also enjoys playing badminton and volleyball. Aside from the Newspaper Club, Yongna is the secretary of the Key Club.

Violet Tong - Head Publisher

Hello!! I'm Vi (she/they), and I am a sophomore at MHSHS and head publisher for the Hunter-Gatherers’ Newspaper. I make sure articles are assigned and properly displayed on the website as well as in the physical copies distributed to students in classrooms. In my free time, I enjoy reading, drawing, and playing badminton. Aside from the Newspaper Club, I also run the Arts & Crafts Club and am an active member of the Mural Club, Debate Club, Better You Club, Media Club, Charity Club, and Aid4needs. I aim for the Hunter-Gatherers Newspaper to continue to strive for success and excellence as well as lead others on the publication team to do so as well.

Seif Eldawaity - Co-Publisher

Hi! I'm Seif (he/him), a sophomore at MHSHS and co-publisher for the Hunter-Gatherers' Newspaper. I help ensure articles are assigned and properly displayed on the website. In my free time, I enjoy playing volleyball, playing video games when I can, as well as listening to various music artists. Other than the Newspaper Club, I am also in the Key Club, and Media Arts Club. It's an honor to be able to serve an active role in this club and help the Hunter-Gatherers Newspaper achieve its goal and succeed.

Sakura Jung - Publication Editor

Sakura (she/they), is a sophomore at MHSHS and publication editor (and review/opinion writer) for the Hunter-Gatherers’ Newspaper. Sakura likes to draw and dance in her free time. Aside from the Newspaper Club, Sakura is a member of the Medical Club, the Better You Club, the Key Club, the Arts & Crafts Club, and Paper Bridges. Her goal in the Newspaper is to make enjoyable pieces of writing and to publish them nicely on the website!

Sofia Pyasta - Publication Editor

Sofia Pyasta (she/her) is a freshman at MHSHS; she’s a publication editor (and beat writer) for the Hunter-Gatherers’ Newspaper. She plays classical guitar as well as enjoys baking and random creative writing. Aside from the Newspaper Club, Sofia is a member of the Debate Club, RTSWS, Culinary Club, and Glamour Gals. Sofia aims to improve her writing skills as well as her skills in journalism, interviewing, and collecting information, as well as website organization and management.

Beat Writers are writers who follow their beat! Trusted to make their prompts, Beat Writers can even receive money to go out and pursue the topics they wish to write about. They also get parties more often!

To become a Beat Writer, a normal writer must show dedication to the Newspaper and must produce quality writing

Jay Rubin

Jay Rubin (she/her) is a sophomore at MHSHS and is one of the Newspaper's Beat writers, often writing about STUCO. Jay enjoys listening to music and playing the drums. While also enjoying theater, did you know Jay had a fish live for a year? Aside from the Newspaper, Jay is an active member of JSU and the Film Society. Jay aims for people to read the MHSHS Newspaper
