It’s official: MHSHS has entered the second semester! But how are our students doing now? These past few months have been a lot to adjust to. From chemistry exams to history papers, we’ve worked through a lot. Some kids have complained– feeling overwhelmed, while others are prepared to persevere through this second half till summer break. One freshman even said, “I needed the midterm break. It felt like a heavy weight had been lifted from my shoulders. I don’t even want to think about how sophomore year will feel.”
Aside from the student body, our staff has been keeping an eye on their students. 9th-grade English teacher Ms. Zakaria has always commented on the workload her students have and how they tend to feel “burnt out” towards the end of the week. Certain faculty also share the same thoughts, but other teachers have found that their students actually enjoy class when engaging with their peers and are allowed to include creativity in their tasks. With this, teachers want to see more effort in their students’ work, even if it's just 10%. “Prioritizing their grades and making room for study sessions will pay off in the long run,” a 10th-grade teacher stated. All in all, everyone wants the best for their hard-working students and will continue to look over them during this new semester.
Whether it’s an upcoming math test or an essay due soon, we can apply our resources and knowledge to ensure the best grade and results for a successful year! Although subjects will be tougher and deadlines will be stricter, our students possess the strength to get their schoolwork done efficiently.
