How Winter Took Over Our Closets

By Charlotte Blair

At the beginning of the school year, students dressed with warmer weather in mind, choosing outfits that were light, simple, and comfortable. However, as winter arrived, the way students dressed at school has clearly changed. Cold mornings and lower temperatures have made warmth and comfortability more important than style for many students. What people wear now looks very different compared to earlier in the year.

In the fall, it was common to see students wearing shorts and skirts paired with T-shirt uniforms as they walked through the halls. Sneakers were paired with ankle socks, and outfits were often chosen based on style rather than warmth. Now, winter clothing has taken over the school. Puffer jackets and long coats are worn outside, and hoodies are seen almost everywhere. Sweatpants and jeans have replaced lighter bottoms, and leggings are often layered underneath for extra warmth. Instead of sneakers, students now tend to wear boots and comfortable shoes like uggs. Hats and scarves have become more noticeable, especially during the morning and after school. Many students also wear multiple layers so they can adjust throughout the day as some are colder than others. Comfort has become a priority, and the need to stay warm during long school days is now prioritized in fashion choices. Even though winter limits some outfit choices, students still find ways to express their style through colors, shoes, and accessories. Overall, winter has changed school fashion by shifting it from casual and light to cozy, layered, and warm.
