As the semester approached its end, some modifications were made to the activities originally planned for students. In addition, StuCo promoted some new activities for the following marking periods.
First of all, the annual Cultural Performance was scheduled for February 13th, the Friday before mid-winter break. However, due to concerns about not having enough staff members to support the showcase and student body, the performance is going to merge with the Talent Show, which will take place in the first week of June. Traditionally, the Talent Show takes place on the same day as the Hunter Game. However, based on observations from last year, the two events will most likely happen on separate days of the same week.
Several factors were considered when this change was encouraged. One reason is that students were usually exhausted from having to sit for hours without a break between the transition from the Talent Show to the Hunter Game, causing pupils to leave before the game ended. A second reason is that the Hunter Game usually runs until 6 pm, which is a time when some students are expected to be home. Giving the Hunter Game its own day allows the event to start earlier, which avoids this problem. Additionally, the gym is not available for our school to use after 6 pm, so starting the Hunter Game early prevents rushing.
Secondly, StuCo planned a roller skating trip to Brooklyn that will take place in late March after Ramadan for 9th and 10th-grade students. StuCo is prioritizing a college-focused field trip for 11th graders to help them during a crucial year for planning their next steps after high school. Members said that these trips let upperclassmen observe college campuses while younger students participate in activities that help them bond with each other.
Additionally, StuCo also mentioned the possibility of hosting a schoolwide picnic that would include all three grades. Although this proposal is still being discussed and has not been officially confirmed yet, the goal is to provide students with a chance to socialize in a more casual setting. This possible event would allow different grades to hang out with one another and offer a break from their daily schoolwork. However, some factors like time, supervision, and school approval are still to be determined.
With these changes and new goals, StuCo wants to make school activities more enjoyable, better timed, and more appropriate to the needs of students, while still improving based on feedback from the student body.
