Student Council is a group of students who come together and try to make students' lives easier and more enjoyable. Members of this “club” plan activities, trips, spirit weeks, and also set up for Hunter Games. In a recent meeting, we addressed concerns for trips, and as a result of this, there will be a roller skating trip for the 9th and 10th graders on March 27, but we are also in the process of planning a school-wide trip. We have to be mindful about budgeting, transportation, and food. But by following the criteria, we can bring these ideas to Dr. Froner and he will decide on which choice he likes better. Additionally, we also planned to pick mascots for Hunter Games, it may be a type of theme such as Pokemon or the Power Rangers. However, if you believe that you have a better idea on what our mascot should be, please bring it up to one of your grade representatives so it can be mentioned in the meeting.
If you don’t know what Hunter Games is, it's an annual school-wide event that is usually hosted during the last week of May. Nevertheless, this year, Hunter Games will be hosted in the first week of June along with the Talent Show. Each grade comes together to compete against each other, and whoever has the most points wins, but it is mostly sports-based. Last year we had Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Musical Chairs, Mascot dance off, and Tug of War, and the Juniors (now Seniors) won. Adding on, every grade has a color they must wear in order to represent their year, freshmen are green, sophomores are blue, juniors are yellow, and seniors are red.
One of the Junior representatives, Ellis Teano, explained how he “wanted to make school more enjoyable for everyone and make it so that people look forward to coming to school.” As one of the Sophomore representatives, my goal is to share and pitch in everyone’s ideas in order to make them feel heard. No matter if they are introverted or extroverted or even awkward, everyone needs to feel seen and acknowledged. In conclusion, the STUCO members are doing the best they can to provide a more entertaining environment for the students. Make sure to vote which Spring trip you would like to attend.
