As we enter a chilly and festive season, the overall vibe at school is significantly lively, particularly due to the high stakes regarding our sports here at the campus. We will be highlighting the latest games, news, and experiences of the boys' and girls' basketball teams!
BOYS BASKETBALL
(Jayden (9th Grade) - Varsity
“The team’s very nice and supportive …it helps me grow as a person. The coach is very strict, but it helps me improve. My teammates are very encouraging."
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Emily (10th Grade) - Varsity
“We’re still accepting new people… the connection here is pretty good. There’s no problems with teammates. We can hopefully expect more wins.”
FROM THE SIDELINES
The campus’s basketball teams don’t just include the players, but the supporters as well. Nathan Baethels (9th Grade) has said that “I go to every game…it’s fun watching them play. I like the community we’re creating at MLK basketball. We’ve had a lot of close games.”
Overall, we can see that both teams are doing well this winter season and are striving towards success. It’s important that we, as students at the MLK campus, try our best to attend their games to support and cheer them on. So, keep in mind that the season is estimated to end late January or early February.
Apart from the voices of our own MHSHS student athletes, regular attendees at games have stated that they are “proud of how hardworking the players are” and how “they never give up.” One of these attendees even stated that that is one of the most important traits in a player; they mentioned that “Our team may not always win, but they’re constantly trying their best and showing good sportsmanship.” This is also something that makes the coaches very proud, and they have even commented that they are very happy with how far the players have come.
And on that note, I would like to say that I am ecstatic to congratulate the boys' varsity team on their latest win, and I hope that we all get together to help our basketball teams secure more wins and have a victorious rest of the season!
