The Nostalgia Built Empire Stranger Things Has Become By Liv Ingvoldstad

The moment we have all been waiting for, the 5th and final season of Stranger Things aired on the 26th of November and has more episodes to come on December 25th and a finale to be aired on the 31st. Since its premiere, Stranger Things has become a hit sensation across the country, globe, and across generations. It's an ode to nerds and lovers of the 80s. Yet for a show that has a very specific premise about a very specific game, it has reached and touched many people.

Stranger Things very intentionally makes references to classic movies from our parents' childhood that makes it accessible to many more generations of people. The story of a group of rough-around-the-edges misfits banding together to solve a mystery or save a town is not a new one. The way this show went about it, however, is genius. Some of the most notable movies Stranger Things makes an intentional reference to are The Goonies and E.T, which are both absolute classics. These heartwarming and touching films became very popular and are still very beloved today. They are also absolutely worth watching if you're looking for some Stranger Things feeling media while waiting for the finale episodes to air. You will very quickly begin to see the parallels between the show and the movies. Many of the iconic bike riding shots from the first season of Stranger Things are direct nods to E.T. The nostalgia felt for many while watching Stranger Things takes no small part in the show's success, and I urge you to recognize the movies and shows that came before Stranger Things. They are truly incredible movies and deserve a watch.
