Each person has a different taste when it comes to many things, especially music. My music taste is more R&B and dancehall. But some may be more into pop or alternative music. So, don’t take my ratings to heart or make them affect your decision on whether or not you want to add the song to your playlist because I just ranked them based on my own taste and style of music. If you are more into R&B I would suggest listening to Doo Wop (That Thing) by Ms. Lauryn Hill, None Of Your Concern (feat. Big Sean) by Jhené Aiko, and Crush by Solange. If you are someone who is into Jazz then I would highly recommend listening to Kiss of Life by Sade which has I want to say piano and saxophone played in certain sections of the song. I know some people are either into K-Pop or want to get into it so I recommend adding CASE 143 by Stray Kids and Fate by (G)I-DLE to the list of songs to listen to. For people who like to listen to hip-hop/rap music, I would suggest adding 4 Min Convo (Favorite Song) by A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, Come Back to Earth by Mac Miller, and Cake by Wolfacejoeyy to your playlist. I may be just a little biased since I am from the Caribbean but I would recommend listening to Summertime by Vybz Kartel especially since the weather is getting nicer and we are slowly inching closer to summer break. If you are someone that is into indie rock bands then you should definitely check out Back to the Old House - 2011 Remaster by The Smiths.  Last but not least, if you are into pop artists and want to try something new then you should try adding Magnolia by Laufey and Jersey by Baby Tate. With all this being said there is a little bit of something for everyone whether it is something that they are already used to or something new that they want to try. To end it all off, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who gave me a song to rate.

“While You Were Sleeping” by Laufey

By Elena Flores

I asked some of my friends for a few song recommendations for this article and one of them recommended “While You Were Sleeping” by Laufey. I thought this would be a perfect chance to listen to one of Laufey's songs as I had never listened to one properly before(only snippets). My first impression of her music is that Laufey has a soothing voice. Her lyrics also seem to be about falling in love or romance in general, and “While You Were Sleeping” is no exception. Based on the lyrics, she sings about being enamored by someone she never thought she’d fall for and acting unlike herself, like dancing in the streets and ironically writing a love song about someone.

The genre of Jazz makes the song all the more sweet and soothing, it feels like the type of song you’d slow dance to or listen to while doing homework. There is also the effect the background melodies have on the overall feeling of the song, it adds to her yearning for the person she loves. After listening to “While You Were Sleeping” I decided to listen to another song from her Bewitched album, “Serendipity”. I noticed that this song sounds more melancholy than the previous one. However, a similarity between them is that they’re like love poems, written directly for a significant other. This can be seen through the use of a second-person perspective. The lyrics that stuck out to me most in “Serendipity” were, “And this I will rarely confess/In years when we’re losing our memory/The world’s taken leaps over time/I hope that you’ll look at me like I’m still twenty-three/Hope that you’ll still be mine”, because they show how she wishes for their love to be everlasting, standing the test of time. If you like soothing or jazzy music, I recommend listening to Laufey’s songs!

A few of you were requested to list your current favorite songs for April; these tracks will be reviewed in this publication. Frank Ocean's "Solo" will be the first song examined. Ocean's soothing and strong voice is highlighted in this song, featuring a flute and other instruments in the back. This song really captures the essence and feelings of the moment, making it a terrific choice for a relaxing listen. The next that will be reviewed is “Die For You” by The Weeknd. One of The Weeknd's many huge hits and a true classic in his discography is this song. The song has a lot of energy and, when you listen to the words, it shows how meaningful it is. "Ex-Factor" by Miss Lauryn Hill will be reviewed as the third song. This song is from "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," one of her most essential and critically acclaimed albums. While singing her heart out, she conveys the depth of this song and her own tale of being in love. She also incorporates other factors when listening to the words and comprehending the message she is putting out there about being in a relationship that has reached a dead end and won't go further. The last song that will be reviewed will be “TIL FURTHER NOTICE” by Travis Scott. This song also features James Blake and 21 Savage. The song's beat is so captivating that it makes you want to move if only head bop. This song is from Travis Scott's most recent album, "UTOPIA," which features multiple collaborations with well-known musicians, including 21 Savage. Every time you hear 21 Savage or Travis Scott release a song, it's usually a pleasant song to move to. This is another song that discusses love, relationships, and heartbreak.
